Selena
She was a designer, singer and performer and broke barriers in the industry of music. She was an Mexican American performer that was modern and traditional. She brought together both worlds and brought Tejano music into the mainstream. Her untimely death splintered her growing popularity and, like many times when a glowing, charming star dies far too young caused many to grieve all the untapped potential. As a result fans were inspired throughout the years to dig in to work even more to make sure her accomplishments won't be lost in the dust. Selena was the Tejano singer who tragically shot to death by a gunshot accident caused an Latino reaction that can be likened to the reaction to Elvis Presley's and John Lennon's deaths. Selena is a hugely popular Latino performer across North America, Selena's music has influenced many people throughout the world. Selena may have been hailed by certain people as the Latina Madonna, however she is still a great role model. Selena's values of family life offstage as well as her involvement with AIDS awareness campaigns provide a great example.
